What I Wish I Knew About Behavior and IEPs—As Both a Parent and Special Ed Teacher
“I Knew the System—And I Still Didn’t Feel Ready”
I’ve sat at more IEP tables than I can count.
As a licensed special education teacher with over 15 years in the classroom, and a special education advocate, I’ve been part of the process from every angle: Writing goals. Implementing behavior plans. Supporting teams. Coaching families. Problem-solving with school staff.
So when I stepped into that room as a parent, I thought I’d be ready.
I wasn’t.
All of my training, experience, and professional confidence… it didn’t stop the knot in my stomach.
It didn’t quiet the fear that I might say too much, or not enough.
It didn’t protect me from the grief that comes with realizing how hard you have to work to get your child’s needs seen—even when you know exactly how the system works.
And that’s when I knew:
We don’t just need more information.
We need a new way of walking through this process—one that brings together what we know, what we feel, and what we need to do next.
The System Is Complicated—Especially When Behavior Is Involved
Here’s the truth most people won’t say out loud:
When behavior becomes the barrier, the system gets harder to navigate.
Plans get vague. Conversations get tense.
Parents get labeled as “too much.”
Kids get labeled as “noncompliant.”
Even in the best schools, with caring people around the table, there’s often a gap between what’s legal, what’s possible, and what actually happens.
And families are left stuck in that gap—exhausted, confused, and feeling like they’re the ones who must “fix” everything.
I’ve seen it happen as a teacher.
I’ve felt it happen as a parent.
And I’ve helped families get unstuck.
This Isn’t a Training—It’s a Shift
What if advocacy didn’t have to feel like a fight?
What if you could walk into the next meeting grounded, clear, and calm—knowing what to say, when to speak, and how to hold your boundaries without burning bridges?
That’s what I’m building.
Not another webinar. Not a script. Not a one-size-fits-all plan.
This is a guided experience for parents of children with behavior challenges—especially those navigating the IEP process and wondering:
Is there a better way to do this?
There is. And we’re going to walk it together.
A Small Beta Group. A Founding Experience.
This fall, I’m opening the doors to a small founding group—just 25 families—who will help shape this experience with me.
This is your chance to get personal support, lifetime access, and behind-the-scenes insight into something that’s never been offered this way before.
And because it’s a beta round, those 25 families will join at a significantly reduced rate—something I won’t offer again.
You’ll help shape the future of this work, and in return, you’ll get what I believe is the most powerful support I’ve ever built for parents navigating behavior and IEPs.
